The role

MidCoast Council's Natural Systems department is a collaborative team connected by a shared vision and purpose, who are steadfastly committed to safeguarding our natural environment through planning, conservation, restoration and sustainability initiatives.

The Biodiversity and Natural Assets Officer will contribute to natural asset management planning and project development across natural areas under Council's care to ensure the ecological health and long-term viability of these areas is sustained.

This position will be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing natural area management plans and contributing to strategic planning initiatives.
  • Developing and maintaining an asset management framework for Council's natural areas.
  • Supporting contractors, staff and volunteers to undertake natural area management activities and restoration projects.
  • Sourcing grant funding and managing grant funded projects including contract management, stakeholder engagement, monitoring, reporting and acquittals.
  • Maintaining effective relationships and partnerships with key government, industry and community groups.
  • Assisting in the development and delivery of community engagement programs, such as Bushcare.

The Biodiversity and Natural Assets Officer will have strong interpersonal and engagement skills and be committed to delivering high level outcomes through collaboration, best practice natural resource management and demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and tight project deadlines.

What you'll bring


  • Degree level qualifications in Environmental Management, Environmental Science or an equivalent field.
  • Proven experience in the areas of natural resource management, biodiversity conservation, restoration ecology, natural area management or bush regeneration.
  • Demonstrated experience in the preparation and implementation of management strategies and action plans for natural areas and biodiversity assets.
  • A proven capacity for quality customer service through the development and implementation of community engagement strategies and processes.
  • Proven high level written and verbal communication, facilitation, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.

Salary: Salary range of $77,000 - $90,000 p.a. plus superannuation (subject to skills and experience).

Location: This position will be based at our Administration Centre in Yalawanyi Ganya at 2 Biripi Way, Taree. You may also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.

Tenure: Permanent, Full Time.
