Job Description:

The role

Sun Life is looking for someone to join our climate team to support the management of our existing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory and reporting in close collaboration with our Director and Manager of Operational Emissions.

Our ideal candidate is passionate about climate change and has direct experience working in carbon accounting and emissions reporting or an academic background in this field. The successful candidate will support data gathering and analysis across Sun Life’s business as it pertains to our GHG reporting and disclosures. The individual will be responsible for learning about and keeping up-to-date with relevant carbon accounting standards and disclosure reporting frameworks.

Supporting the team’s efforts is a network of sustainability champions from different business groups and regions in which we operate.


What will you do?

Work across the climate change team and business stakeholders to maintain the organization’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory by:

  • Collecting quarterly data through our tool and assessing data quality of reported Scope 1,2,3 emissions categories

  • Driving process improvements and automation of data collection and computation

  • Tracking performance against climate-related metrics

  • Developing summaries and visuals for internal and external purposes, in addition to supporting business level reporting needs

  • Support Operational Emissions Manager on annual third-party GHG assurance and our ESG reporting such as CDP, DJSI, TCFD, our Sustainability Report, among others

  • Create materials to support internal and external communications on climate performance information

  • Manage and support various other climate-related initiatives as needed

What do you need to succeed?

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; detail and numbers oriented

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other visual tools

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • High level knowledge of the climate change discipline and carbon accounting standards, particularly the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG) Protocol

  • Understanding of greenhouse gas emissions reporting and assurance processes, experience or familiarity with carbon or financial accounting is considered a plus

  • Working experience in a sustainability-related role is not necessary but considered an asset

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
